The Dove Cottage: A Chic Sonoma Vacation Getaway
A visit to Wine Country is often met with a lot of planning and loads of choices for food, wine, and places to stay. While the food and wine can cause lots of debate, the Dove Cottage in Sonoma is a perfect little oasis where you can kick back and relax before and after a long day of swirling and sipping.
Whether you’re traveling as a small family, with a group of girlfriends, or retreating as a couple, the Dove Cottage is the spot for you. Nestled into a small, rustic, cul-de-sac just blocks away from the downtown Sonoma Square, this cottage greets you with open arms. The moment you open the door you can feel the love that went into updating and appointing this charming little home. An open-concept center of the home, which boasts a modest farmhouse kitchen and two cozy sitting areas, is a great place to open a bottle of wine and unpack the cheese and bread.
The second bedroom – complete with sliding barn door – has a pair of relaxing day beds and a lovely little wine fridge (and, yes, you can open a bottle of Spirit Horse Vineyards wine and drop your payment online – just in case you forgot to bring your own). For those of us interested in an extended stay (or those of us who, you know, get a little overzealous with our wine swirling), you’ll also find a washer and dryer for your convenience.
My favorite part of this chic cottage is the romantic master bedroom. For starters, the king bed is beyond comfortable, and the linens are just as inviting. The dual sets of French doors which open to the impeccably manicured backyard help bring in the intoxicating Sonoma sunlight, and every morning makes you feel like you’re in the French countryside. Speaking of sunshine, the yard features the best outdoor space. You’ve got your own pool (and it’s to die for), a semi-wrap-around deck with seating, and a strikingly green lawn complete with sun chairs. They’ve thought of everything – including the inflatable pool flamingo (which may or may not make an appearance in a future Instagram post).
For the price of a night (or two, or ten) at Dove Cottage you’d be hard-pressed to get anything that’s truly your own, or that will make you pick up Wine Country real estate listings as fast as this oasis. So, when you’re planning your next visit to Sonoma, go ahead and use all your free time planning out your food and wine follies – you already know where you’re going to stay.
