Chateau de Sacy: A stunning luxury hotel in Champagne

On our recent trip to Champagne, France, we had the pleasure of staying at the spectacular Chateau de Sacy. This gorgeous, boutique hotel has 12 spacious, uniquely appointed rooms – and is the perfect mix of timeless elegance, classic romance, and modern luxury. There is no mistaking the Chateau as it sits perched high on a hillside (in the Montagne de Reims) overlooking the city of Reims just a few short miles in the distance. The entire Chateau is surrounded by vineyards, placing you in the middle of one of Champagne’s historic premier cru sites. The quiet countryside setting adds to the Chateau’s allure, but its proximity to Reims, Epernay, and all of the beautiful small towns and producers in the area is one of the major perks of this hideaway.

We stayed in the “Marie Antoinette” guest room, which had two large windows offering lots of light and breathtaking views of the vineyards. The king sized bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the chaise lounge made late-afternoon daydreaming a reality every day. The large bathroom featured classic marble and a huge bathtub.

The hotel has a gorgeous bar and lounge with an incredible wine list comprised of mostly small, local Champagne producers. There are also two outdoor patios where you can enjoy your aperitifs overlooking the vineyards and the quaint town of Sacy. The restaurant, Les Vignes, is a true reflection of contemporary French cuisine – you have to eat here one night if you can (we enjoyed two dinners and two lunches). The menu changed almost every day to showcase the best of local and fresh ingredients. Highly recommend the foie gras, and any of the fresh fish selections.

There are two excellent ways to stay active and see the surrounding area. The hotel will reserve bikes for you. We took advantage of this one morning and had so much fun biking around the towns and through the vineyards. There’s also an excellent hiking trail behind the hotel and the views from the top of the “mountain” (you’ll understand why the locals joke about the area being called the “Montagne de Reims” because, well, they’re more like little hills) are breathtaking. After getting out, or returning from a lovely day of Champagne tasting, be sure to take a dip in the Turkish spa baths – this activity is best complemented with a glass of Mobillion or Dumenil Blanc de Blancs – two producers located just down the road from the hotel.

So easy to access from Paris, Chateau de Sacy is the perfect place to spend a romantic few nights or enjoy a relaxing girls getaway in Champagne. Whether you want to head to the larger (or smaller) surrounding towns and cities, or just pop a few local bottles and relax in the idyllic countryside setting, you won’t be disappointed here.
